Charleston Fashion Week: RTW Fall 2012
The concept for this collection was inspired by the delicate complexities of chandeliers. Chandeliers first appeared in the homes of medieval kings as wooden crosses with spikes on which candles could be secured. As time progressed, they began to take on more complex forms and materiality, becoming popular decorative features. Whether in medieval times or the present day, chandeliers have always been signs of luxury and status. This collection is informed by the components of chandeliers that have contributed to their beauty and function across time. The contrast between light and shadow inspired my patterns while the colors that beam through crystals impacted my fabric and material choices. My collection, like chandeliers, is meant to be poised yet daring, delicate but robust, and these contradictories are what inspired me the most. All accessories were created from antique chandelier pieces.
